Italy Travel Guide: Exploring Rome,
Florence & Venice in One Trip

In March of this year, I embarked on an unforgettable tour of Italy, visiting three remarkable cities: Rome, Florence, and Venice. Each destination provided a unique atmosphere and distinctive attractions, making the trip a memorable journey.
Below is an account of what it’s like to travel through these iconic cities.

Rome – The Eternal City

Upon arriving in Rome, the sense of history is immediate. Walking through the Colosseum felt like stepping back in time, evoking vivid images of gladiators and emperors who once walked the same grounds. The city is filled with piazzas and fountains around every corner, each contributing to Rome’s timeless charm.

A visit to the Vatican was particularly inspiring. St. Peter’s Basilica stands out with its impressive architecture, and the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel is truly breathtaking. One of the highlights was seeing the famous Trevi Fountain, which lived up to its reputation; tossing a coin into its waters is a tradition that many visitors enjoy. Exploring the neighborhood of Trastevere offered another authentic Roman experience.

Rome’s culinary scene left a lasting impression as well. Enjoying fresh pasta, delicious gelato, and pizza outdoors in lively squares was a highlight of the stay.

Assisi – A Medieval Gem

The bus journey to Florence was scenic and included a stop in the city of Assisi. Assisi is peaceful and picturesque, with quiet streets that invite both reflection and admiration of medieval architecture. The narrow streets feature small restaurants and shops, creating a cozy atmosphere. During the visit, the beautiful St. Francis Basilica, named after the renowned saint, stood out as a highlight.

Florence – The Cradle of the Renaissance

After exploring Assisi, the journey continued to Florence. The city’s atmosphere is steep in art and history. A highlight of the visit to Florence was the trip to the Academy of Fine Arts, where the famous statue of David is displayed. This remarkable marble masterpiece by Michelangelo was captivating with its striking details and powerful presence.

A walk along the Piazza del Duomo and Signoria Square offered spectacular sights of Florence’s Gothic and Renaissance art, architecture and monuments. Another highlight was enjoying a beautiful dinner in the Tuscan countryside of the Chianti Hills.

Surrounded by rolling vineyards and picturesque landscapes, the experience was both relaxing and memorable. The meal featured authentic Tuscan dishes, allowing for a true taste of the region’s renowned cuisine. The peaceful ambiance of the Chianti Hills, combined with the delicious food and stunning scenery, made the evening a special part of the journey through Italy.

The combination of world-class art and flavorful food made Florence an unforgettable destination.

Pisa – The Tilted Tower

En route to Venice was a stop to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa. This famous Tower is known as architecture gone awry. It was a chance to take the ultimate selfie in front of the tower with popular poses to commemorate the visit. The experience was fun and Exhilarating.

Venice – The Floating City

Venice feels like stepping straight into a painting. Its canals, bridges, and colorful palazzi create a dreamlike scene unlike anywhere else in the world. On a guided walking tour, we explored St. Mark’s Square, admired the Doge’s Palace, crossed the Bridge of Sighs, and took in views of the magnificent Basilica. St. Mark’s Square itself was unforgettable, with its sweeping arches, marble details, and intricate carvings—a showcase of Venetian grandeur.

We also visited a glassblowing company to watch a glassblower demonstration which was both fascinating and fun. But the true magic of Venice revealed itself off the main paths—wandering through narrow alleyways that opened onto hidden courtyards, charming shops, and cozy cafés. A gondola ride along the canals was pure joy, the perfect way to take in the beauty of this one-of-a-kind city. One of the best parts of Venice was trying cicchetti, little tapas-style bites, with a glass of local wine—it was the perfect way to end an evening of wandering the city

Each city is best explored on foot, so comfortable shoes are essential. To make the most of your trip, book museum tickets and major attractions ahead of time. Spring and fall bring the most pleasant weather, with fewer crowds than summer.

Visting Rome, Florence, and Venice is like experiencing three different worlds in one country each with its own character, flavors and unforgettable moments. The journey through Italy left memories that will last a lifetime.
