Marseille France Trip

Marseille France Trip

Details about my journey to Marseille, France, and more insights.

The meetup in Marseille was for 3 days, however I planned to stay a couple of days after. I was so proud of myself for successfully arranging my trip, including flights and hotel. Marseille is France’s largest Mediterranean city in southern France and its busiest commercial port. It’s the oldest city in France. Seeing it for the first time, I fell in love with the old-world charm of the old port area filled with yachts and bustling with people purchasing fresh fish and the distinct scent of the sea. I couldn’t believe I had made such a journey.

We stayed at the Residhotel Vieux Port near the city center. The hotel was conveniently located away from the city’s hustle and offered an easy walk to sights and restaurants. During our stay in Marseille, besides spending time in the popular Old Port, we wandered through the vibrant streets of the city center, soaking in the rich history and lively atmosphere. We browsed several city blocks of flea markets filled with vibrant colors, clothing, art, and handmade crafts.

The highlight of the trip was taking an open shuttle bus to the Notre-Dame de la Garde Basilica. As the shuttle bus wound its way toward the Basilique, it offered delightful views of the Mediterranean Sea and elegant residential neighborhoods lining the route.

At the top of Notre-Dame de la Garde, the view of the city below was breathtaking. In that moment I pondered my life and realized that healing wasn’t about erasing the past but transforming beyond the past and continuing to grow stronger with each new experience.

The people of Marseille were friendly and welcoming. I admire and envy French culture, which values family, friends, and enjoying life. The numerous restaurants reflect their love for food and the importance of social gatherings. I’ll never forget the joy of dining at a restaurant overlooking the port, just taking in the present moment. I wanted to savor every second.

At the end of the 3-day meetup I continue to explore the city along with another member of the group. We took a cruise on the Mediterranean Sea. The clear blue water and beautiful scenery made such an impression on me. It reminded me that life is vast, beautiful, and full of possibilities. The time in Marseille reminded me of the kind of life I want to live, one rooted in presence, connection and small joys.
